Before I got my new truck, I never ventured off the Island much. I do grocery shopping locally, and nearly everything else I order over the Internet; banking, bill-paying, purchases. And, what’s not easily obtainable on the ‘Net, I can acquire in town. In fact, in the past three years, I’ve been off the Island twice. Both times were in a 15-person vanpool to the Company Holiday party in Seattle.
Today, I had to drive over to Sedro-Woolley to resign paperwork for the truck, which marked the second time I was off the Island in 5 days! So, no more mocking me for being such an Islander!
As long as I was going off the Island, I decided to make a trip of it. I stopped at the turn-out on Deception Pass Bridge and took some pictures. One of them is the one you see attached to this entry.
On the way back, I stopped at Bowman Bay in Deception Pass to take some more pictures. I originally thought the picture of the Mustang was taken at Rosario Beach, but it was really Bowman Bay. Hey, it was 15 years ago, and I’m old. Anyway, here’s a new picture of my new truck. Here’s another angle.
As I was snapping pictures, I got to thinking about Deception Pass. All this beauty is only 10 miles from town (and still on the Island), but I kind of take it for granted. When I do leave the Island, I simply drive through the Park and over the bridge and barely give it a glance. How blasé of me. Even when our Company held it’s Summer Picnic at Rosario Beach last summer, I didn’t really pause to enjoy the scenery until someone pointed out the killer whales a pod of orcas in the Sound. I used to work in Anacortes, and during the summers, would often stop at the Park on the way home. I should make more trips to the Park… it’s a great way to unstress.
